Perched on the cliffs of Sorrento and overlooking the beach below, this family retreat captures the essence of coastal living. Originally a modest beach shack, the home has been carefully reimagined through a two-stage renovation, creating a generous haven for gathering across multiple families and generations. The kitchen and living areas were relocated to the upper level to embrace uninterrupted ocean views, transforming daily rituals into moments of connection with the coastline.
The design draws from the language of the Mornington Peninsula, responding to the neighbourhood character with familiar forms and enduring materials. The gabled roofline echoes the iconic beach boxes that line the shore, grounding the new home within its context. Inside, light and openness define the spaces, while additional bedrooms and bunkrooms offer flexibility for family holidays and long summer stays.
This is a home that speaks to memory and place; a contemporary sanctuary anchored by the rhythms of the sea and the enduring character of Sorrento.
