Nestled amid bushland and looking out the ocean, this family sanctuary in Lorne offers a relaxing coastal lifestyle and ample space for entertaining. Our extensive renovation transformed the 1980s house into a contemporary residence that’s sensitive to the surrounding environment, amplifying its connection to the landscape.

The raw, tactile palette embraces natural tones and textures. Charred timber cladding and locally sourced bluestone paving are in harmony with the bush surrounds, and are enduring, low-maintenance materials to withstand the coastal conditions. The charred timber boards continue inside, lining the staircase wall and transforming the restored fireplace into a focal element of the living room.

A crisp contrast to the black cladding and natural landscape, the original circular rendered walls are painted white. The light-filled interior spaces, with blue-toned joinery and swirling granite, are peaceful and playful, reflecting the nature of the ocean.
