Set behind a traditional Californian Bungalow, the new garden pavilion proposal rests quietly within the landscape and offers a contemporary complement to the original home. The existing bungalow’s broad gables, deep eaves and grounded horizontal lines guided the extension.
At the transition between old and new, the plan opens and light begins to enter more generously. A gently pitched roof and slender columns nod to the language of the existing house, while large openings soften the threshold to the garden.
Timber, textured masonry and muted tones extend the warmth of the bungalow, creating a material continuity between eras.
The pavilion becomes a quiet place to sit within the landscape, an understated extension that respects the character of the Californian Bungalow while framing contemporary living.
